Description
Pressure treated plywood is engineered for enhanced resistance to fungal decay, termites, and moisture degradation.
Key Characteristics:
- Preservative Type: MCA (Micronized Copper Azole), a copper-based preservative with azole co-biocide — less corrosive and more aesthetically neutral than older treatments like CCA or ACQ
- Treatment Process: Vacuum-pressure impregnation ensures deep, uniform penetration into the wood substrate
- Substrate: Typically Southern Yellow Pine or Douglas Fir, selected for optimal absorption and structural integrity
- Adhesive: APA-rated exterior glue suitable for structural applications in wet conditions
- Surface Appearance: Light green or tan hue; smoother finish compared to ACQ-treated panels
- Corrosion Considerations: Requires corrosion-resistant fasteners — hot-dip galvanized, stainless steel, or MCA-rated hardware
- Common Uses: Sill plates and rim boards in contact with concrete or masonry, exterior wall sheathing and roof decking in humid zones, crawlspace and basement framing, decking substrates and fencing panels
- Limitations: Heavier than untreated plywood due to moisture retention, not recommended for interior finish surfaces without sealing, may require drying time before painting or sealing
